This body of work My work explores hope through grief, it depicts my grandma’s presence in now empty spaces and her personal objects to show hope in always being able remember a loved one, even when they have passed. For most people hope is associated with positive experiences in the present, however to me hope is in memories and the ability to feel optimistic even through heartbreaking loss. This deeply personal work was created while there for the first time after she had passed. It shows my grandma’s belongings and home where she lived for sixty years, and which was also a huge part of my childhood. Capturing the places where she spent most of her time, visited by family, and her favourite things and details expresses that she used to be there, was important to me. Hope in Loss shows that there will always be something in an empty space that keeps the hope that you will always remember your loved ones, whether they’re physically with, us or not .
